Using Positive Affirmations to Improve Mental Health

Affirmations can be a powerful tool in healing depression and anxiety. Below are some resources and suggestions. Remember that anything that you put after the words I AM are very powerful. You can either write them out, say them aloud, or say them silently in your head. The important thing to remember is to make this a daily practice.

Here are some sample affirmations to get you started:

  • I am healed.
  • I am joyful.
  • I am in the perfect place at the perfect time.
  • I am unconditionally loved and accepted.
  • I am abundant in every way.
  • I am free from all worries.
  • I am safe and protected.

If you sense that by saying these affirmations that you are “lying” to yourself and you don’t really believe what you are saying, you can try putting a more gentle spin on the affirmation. For example, if you feel that saying “I am joyful” when you are in fact sad isn’t helping, you can change the affirmation to something like, “I am easily letting go of everything that is weighing me down.”
